It is easy to believe in God's glory when life is pleasant and easy. But is it so easy when you are sailing through a storm? Or when raging fires sweep through the wilderness around you? Psalm 29 is a sorely needed reminder that God reigns gloriously in all circumstances and experiences of our lives, be they beautiful (as we perceive them) or frightening (again, as we perceive them).

"The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over many waters … The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire. The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh … The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever." Whether it is raging storm, wild fire, or flood, God reigns over them "as king forever." And, knowing this, we respond with praise. "Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness."

That is, not only in seasons of ease, but especially in seasons of bewilderment, we give glory to God who reigns as king. For it is only to the extent that we are assured of his kingly reign in all circumstances both good and bad that we are able to pray, "May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!"
