2025 is over and it is now 2026. The turning of the calendar reminds us life does not stand still. Every day we are taking steps that either draw us closer to our eternal glory, or to eternal sorrow. Eternity before us imbues into every ticking second a sacredness that hallows it. But each sacred second, if profaned, will be called upon as witness against us. Surely, we need to pray with Moses in Psalm 90, "So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom."

Indeed. We must pray. But what shall we pray for?

Perhaps we no longer write as many checks as we used to. But do you remember how you used to continue to write the wrong year in your checks? You would, for example, continue to date your checks 2025 when it should be dated 2026. It takes a little while to remember and live by the new reality.

We face similar challenges in our Christian life. We continue to think and act based on our old nature rather than living in the newness of life we have in Christ. This, then, is how we ought to pray. We pray that we might live this new year 2026 in full awareness and appreciation of our being in Christ. May the Lord indeed teach us to number our days. And may our lives be filled with heaven's light.
