The Bible is full of comfort for weary and struggling people. For example, consider the powerful words of Isaiah 35:3–4. "Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who have an anxious heart, "Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you."" The flow of thought is as follows. We can have strength and hope amidst our many troubles today, because God will one day set all things right.
Indeed, his "vengeance" is aimed at everything that causes us grief and heartache. No loving father looks at the source of his child's suffering with affection. Yes, pain and suffering refined character, and our heavenly Father ordains them for such ends. Still, God hates with a faithful passion everything that belongs to the realm of death and darkness. And so God promises to make all things right.
But just when will God make everything right? As we continue to read Isaiah 35, that glorious day is a gift that God bestows upon us through his Son at the consummation of his kingdom. In other words, God will make all things right when, at last, his Son is exalted over all peoples and creation.
In the mean time, we "strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees" with this reminder — from the song "Is He Worthy?" by Andrew Peterson and Ben Shive.
"Do you feel the world is broken? We do. Do you feel the shadows deepen? We do. But do you know that all the dark won't stop the light from getting through? We do. Do you wish that you could see it all made new? We do."
"Is all creation groaning? It is. Is a new creation coming? It is. Is the glory of the Lord to be the light within our midst? It is. Is it good that we remind ourselves of this? It is."
Indeed. It is.
