If you had power, what would you do? If you could do anything, how would you flex your power? History, of course, is full of people who used their power for selfish ends. But it is not just the dictators of the world who abuse power. Ordinary people like you and I, if given the opportunity, will swiftly set out to bring about our favorite fantasies. Lord Acton spoke well. "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

But this cannot be said about our God. Psalm 145:10–18 is a reflection on God's power. The psalmist praises God's power. But God is not praised merely because he is powerful. God is to be praised because of what he does with his power. "The LORD upholds all who are failing and raises up all who are bowed down…You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing." We praise God because he uses his almighty power to help the weak.

Indeed, we sing of God's great power, for in doing so we are reminded how much God is for us, how faithfully he has committed himself to us, and how gently he carries those that are weak. So strong. Yet so gentle. So without a peer. Yet he calls us his friends. So untouchable. Yet carries his lambs in his bosom. This is our God. And he is worthy of our praise.
