One way we can summarize the whole Bible might be to say, "God is King, and we are his children through Jesus." In this week's first passage, Daniel 7:9–14, we see God upon his throne. He is majestic in his splendor, and the whole creation stands before him in a hushed silence. And then Daniel sees "one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom…". The "one like a son of man" is Jesus, who receives from the Father authority and dominion. So we sing "Crown Him with Many Crowns." We lift up our praise to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit who together reign in righteousness. God is King.

This week's second passage, Romans 8:12–17, concerns our adoption as "sons of God." To be counted as "sons" means we are "heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ." Our adoption bestows upon us a great honor and a great calling. We are honored in and with Jesus. And now we must live as befits heirs. God is King, and we are his children through Jesus. Thus our worship is both serious and joyful. It must be serious, for we come to worship the great King. And worship must be full of joy. For we have come into the presence of our Father as children. May our worship be both full of reverence, and full of sweetness.
