Before We Worship
How does God guide us day to day? Among those who believe that God makes his will known to his people, this question is largely answered in one of two ways. On the one hand, some believe that God makes his will known through our feelings. This is variously called "having peace" about certain decisions or as "following the prompt of the Holy Spirit." What they usually mean is that something that feels good is right, and if something feels good, how can it be wrong?
While many people live by the principles of feelings, that is not how we ought to live. Jesus answered Satan, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." God guides his people through his Word. Indeed, to live by the Word of God means to follow the prompt of the Holy Spirit, for all of Scripture is inspired by God's Spirit. So many people say today, "Man shall live by feelings." We, however, live by "every word that comes from the mouth of God."
If living well is important to you, then there is nothing more important than the Word of God. If making good decisions matter to you, then there is nothing more urgent than learning God's word and applying it to life. So, come, then, and let us learn and obey the Word of God together.
