March 26 — 11 AM Worship

You can find the order of worship and songs here.

We begin this week's worship service with Psalm 16. In the book of Acts both Peter (Acts 2:27) and Paul (Acts 13:35) cite Psalm 16:10 to prove that Scriptures foretold Jesus' resurrection: "For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption." Indeed, the entire psalm is Jesus speaking through David regarding the great suffering he would face on the cross. Thus it begins, "Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge." Yet there is a persistent note of joy that runs through the entire psalm. 16:3 "As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight." 16:6 "The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance." 16:9 "Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure." Jesus faced his suffering and death with joy. For it was his joy to lay his life down for "the saints…in whom is all my delight." Jesus considered the souls he would rescue as his "beautiful inheritance." Jesus did not go to the cross with reluctance or with resignation. "Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices…" Jesus laid down his life for us with joyful willingness, for it was his delight to do his Father's will, and his delight to rescue us.

And God, of course, did not fail to honor such a loving heart and sacrifice. God raised Jesus from the dead, and let him know "the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." How great is our Savior! It was, and is, the Father's great delight to honor his son, Jesus. And it is our joy as well to honor Jesus. Indeed, how can we not worship and adore such a friend, brother, and king!
