This weekend many people will tune in to watch King Charles III's coronation. But did you know that every Lord's Day we celebrate Jesus' coronation and kingly reign? We gather every Lord's Day to hear his decrees. King Jesus declares his law, and we pledge our unwavering allegiance. We celebrate as we remember our King's victorious battle. King Jesus proclaims peace to his people. We sit with our king and break bread with him. And, perhaps in a most surprising turn of the plot, we are all named as royal sons and daughters of the King. Truly, compared to Jesus' glorious kingship, every earthly throne is but a poor imitation. No earthly throne can match the grandeur and the glory of Jesus' throne. What joy it is to honor our great King!

Growth Resources

This Month: For May we are reading "Strange New World: How Thinkers and Activists Redefined Identity and Sparked the Sexual Revolution" by Carl R. Truman.

This Week: We encourage you to make use of:

  1. Kevin DeYoung's "The Good News We Almost Forgot" pages 98–101, Lord's Day 19, for personal or family devotions.
  2. "Select Letters of John Newton," Letter 14 (pages 90–95), "The Practical Influence of Faith."

Hymn of the Week: Trinity Hymnal #168 "I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art." This hymn is often attributed to John Calvin. While there is no way to know for sure who wrote it, the hymn conveys the grace and hope of Jesus Christ that were the mainstays of John Calvin's ministry and writings. The fourth stanza is particularly beautiful: "Thou has the true and perfect gentleness, no harshness hast thou and no bitterness: make us to taste the sweet grace found in thee and ever stay in thy sweet unity." | YouTube.

Last week's sermon is available on our church webpage: gracefallbrook.church/sermons.
